Cruises might be synonymous with images of leisure,
but there's something about the sheer volume of people
(or long buffet lines) that doesn't quite hit that "luxury"
travel note. Sure, there are colossal waterslides, VIP
packages and appearances by celebrity chefs, but it's
all absent of that blissful vision we carry with us when
we think about an exclusive vacation on the high seas.
You know the one, gazing off into the horizon from
the deck of a private yacht anchored outside one of the
world's most exclusive ports. It's just something cruises
traditionally haven't been able to capture.
However, in 2020 e Ritz-Carlton
will take to the seas, making it the first
luxury hotel brand to offer a superyacht
experience. Its inception began when
Douglas Prothero, managing director and
CEO of e Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection,
met with investors and asked them to make
a list of five luxury cruise lines. To their
surprise, they struggled—which made it
quite obvious that there was a need for a
bespoke experience at sea.
