I n publishing a luxury magazine, I've noticed that the first thing that rolls off a person's tongue when considering the very idea of "luxury" is wealth—typically in the form of big houses, expensive cars, fine dining or five-star hotels. While many of these are synonymous with luxury, they're certainly not what defines it. What I've come to find is that the essence of luxury are the details behind a lot of those aforementioned things, which translate into an elevated experience: the chef who has spent his entire career dreaming about his new eclectic menu, the crasman who handpicks every piece of material for his vintage car, the travel curator who sources the best local experts before you arrive. In VUE's 2019 Fall Issue, we celebrate these details. First and foremost, we dive into the history of Morgan Motor Company, whose 300th Plus 8 graces our cover. e British brand has been hand-building unique vintage sport cars since 1909, evoking both a bygone era and a new dawn of performance and refinement. An antidote to the mass-production of today's autos, Morgan represents an aspect of luxury that remains unchanged in its manufacturing, a process that exudes both individuality and character. Speaking of details, in travel, I also share my first sojourn to Italy's fabled Tuscany region to get a better sense of self at two esteemed properties: Il Salviatino and Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco. Elsewhere, we peek behind the curtain of NJ's top roaster, Afficionado Coffee, a brand focused on international relationships and sustainability. In design, we go inside 12 Sunset Lane, a picturesque Monmouth Beach property currently on the market. And in dining, our editorial assistant Abby Montanez offers a fresh take on Michelin-starred Chef Alain Verzeroli's new NYC restaurant, Le Jardinier. In these stories and through each page, we aim to build a braver, bolder magazine that celebrates these details both here in New Jersey and abroad. FROM THE EDITOR V U E N J . C O M 28
