NewYear, New 'Do Looking toward a new year, you might feel like your life is in need of a refresh. Personally, I find nothing says change quite like a hair transformation. Maybe it's time to mellow out your much bolder locks, try a different cut or add in some pastel hues. We've all been there and can attest to the liberating powers of a new look. If you're feeling stuck, there's no shortage of ideas you can steal straight from Pinterest pages, red carpets or Instagram accounts. I instead went straight to the source, and tapped owners Zoe Cortez and Christine Ku of Zoku Salon in Summit, NJ to find out the latest hair happenings they foresee sticking around in 2020. Cortez, a master colorist, and Ku, a renowned stylist, shared three standout trends that will inspire you to take your strands in a new direction. e attitude towards gray hair has shied for the better over the past few years. Not only are more women seeking out silver locks, it's an especially exciting time for those who are going gray naturally. is color trend has made it acceptable for women to embrace their hair's natural change in pigment. No matter if you're 26 or 60, going grey isn't so much a sign of aging as it is one of the hottest trends we're seeing on women right now. If your hair is already pre-lightened, a colorist can begin the transformation by working in cool shades of violet, blue, titanium or lavender. Even easier, upkeep can be done at-home by using a brass-fighting purple shampoo or conditioner. For those who are going gray naturally, Cortez suggests having your stylist strategically place highlights and lowlights throughout the hair to mimic that "salt and pepper" effect—which will in turn lengthen your time between touch-ups. e right cut can also give the hair a more dimensional look, Ku explained.
