T he 1940s era home is worthy of admiration as it stands alone, but its surroundings were a tangle of unmanicured trees and lawn space on unforgiving sloping land. There was a pool but its placement left it unconnected to the main house and appeared as more of an afterthought than part of the overall estate. The homeowners wanted to do better and take advantage of all their property could offer. As former college athletes, the couple wanted a place where they and their visiting family and friends could truly play year-round, but they had no idea where to begin. Enter Dan D'Agostino, founder of Plan Architecture, and his team who took the owners' interests of golf and appreciation for places like NYC Polo Club and the Augusta National, to heart and set out to create a new space to encompass everything the clients love. Plan Architecture was brought into the project by CLC Landscaping, recognizing that building a lush landscape was just part of the puzzle and more structure was needed. "I was brought in to strategize on the approach for the property and landed on designing a pool cabana and outdoor pavilion. The challenge was deciding where these structures would go as the land wasn't cooperating with us with its multi-levels and a pool that was not in an area conducive to feeling like it was a part of the main house," says D'Agostino. Acknowledging his clients' appreciation for a good round of golf, he also wanted to create an outdoor putting green designed as a miniature version of the links at Augusta.
