For over 40 years the family-owned company Woodhaven Lumber & Millwork has worked with builders and homeowners to create living spaces f rom the ground up. What started as a company specializing in lumber and millwork, has grown with the times to encompass every aspect of a home f rom flooring to windows, kitchens to stairs, and everything in between. F ounder James T. Robinson started his career at a lumberyard, learning every aspect of the business, but when the yard shut down he made a decision to buy it. His sons Alan and David, now President and Co-President, came aboard the new venture and together shared the dream to turn the business into the best lumber, millwork, and building supplier in New Jersey. The Robinsons focused on innovation and listening to customer needs to bring both top-of-the-line products and unparalleled customer service to customers. In 1979, the company became the first dealer in the region to carry the Weyerhaueser Trus Joist family of engineered wood products, and later became one of the the first suppliers of Simpson Strong-Tie carrying one of the largest inventories in New Jersey. "From those early days, the company has constantly evolved and expanded to support the needs of builders who make up the majority of our customer base. However, Woodhaven's clientele has expanded to retail and home remodelers and keeps growing to support their needs as well," said third-generation David A. Robinson, Executive Vice President. Alan and David took what their father started and grew it into today's company that encompasses four locations. The main location is a 40-acre property in Lakewood that houses the corporate offices, as well as serving as the location for all manufacturing and two rail sidings that bring in 18 cars a week carrying lumber and sheet goods. This site, as well as two other full- service lumber yards located in Point Pleasant and Manahawkin, also house showrooms for kitchen design, flooring, windows, and closets. Woodhaven has one boutique-style kitchen and closet showroom located in Shrewsbury. All together the company has 188,000 square feet of warehousing and manufacturing, and another 13,000 square feet of total showroom space. With a company this vast in both size and depth of knowledge, it's safe to assume that no matter what the customer has in mind, Woodhaven can find or create the solution. But while the size and scope of the business is large, the business still retains its local, family-like atmosphere. David A. Robinson says the key to the company's success is that they are truly a one-stop shop where customers can explore options, work with designers, and purchase their building needs, but still find personalized service. "As much as it's grown, the company has remained grounded with personal service and our connection with customers. We've had customers who have been with us for 40 years with some now in their second and third generation of ownership. There are other companies that do what we do but none that do everything."
