While his longest project to date lasted seven years, one of the more challenging–and therefore satisfying–designs that Patrick is proud of is his work on Unbridled, a new construction motor yacht that took five years to design and build. Because wood species is very important when it comes to yacht design, Patrick and his client flew to a renowned veneer company in Ohio to choose from eight to ten wood veneers. However, Unbridled's owner loved so many options that Patrick was tasked with curating the twenty-one different species of wood his client picked. "It turned out to be such a massive and monumental task to be able to curate twenty-one species of wood, and design and sequence our wood species so that when you walked on board, you were not overwhelmed or bombarded by so many," Patrick explains. It took around four months to sequence those wood species throughout the boat, but the sheer genius of Patrick's design work is evident in the photos. Each distinctive room flows into the next, with no garish or abrupt change to the overall flow and aesthetic of Unbridled. Of particular excitement for Patrick Knowles Designs is the recent delivery of the CHASSEUR, a yacht refit. As Patrick puts it, "at this point, I love the delivery." And deliver he did. is elegant vessel features exotic and bespoke materials throughout every room, evidence of the input of both the owner and designer. "I am taking a lot of delight and pleasure in seeing the entire design, protocol, project come together in a way that has been orchestrated specifically through the direction of a client," Patrick explains. "And to see that come together feels amazing for me."
