"Would VUE NJ be interested in a storefront at Newark International Airport?" is question, posed several years ago during a call with the Marshall Retail Group, would completely transform the trajectory of our company. When asked by the nation's largest specialty retailer in the airport and casino marketplace, it took us only a few seconds before responding with a resounding "yes." While excited by the possibilities, we went on with our day and heard nothing else on the matter for over a year. Would this be a kiosk in the middle of the terminal? Is the airport getting an upgrade? For anyone who has flown in and out of Terminal A, you would have noticed little has changed throughout the years. Whether catching a flight in the 1970s or in the past decade, there was a good chance the airport terminal and your experience looked the same. e answer turned out to be an unexpected surprise. e Port Authority was planning to build a brand-new terminal inside the largest airport in the state. To date, the new Terminal A is the largest design-build project in the history of New Jersey. And as the main retail storefront on the airport's main ground level, VUE is right in the middle of it. It now sits as the "unofficial gi shop" of the new Newark airport. How did a company that started out of a living room grow into a national brand? While that will have to be a story for another day, continue to stay tuned as there will be more VUE storefronts opening in 2023. We are extremely humbled by this opportunity, in which over 14 million passengers will travel through the terminal each year. When we finally had a chance to see the store earlier this year, I had goosebumps all over my body. Up until that point, we had only seen the renderings, and the in-person view (no pun intended) was much more impressive. Also impressive is Patrick Knowles and his award-winning design firm. Patrick and his team serve as America's top yacht design firm with their specialty in custom megayachts, superyachts, and aircra interiors. Along with an exclusive discussion with Patrick, our cover feature will take you inside some of his latest work, including his most ambitious project to date.
