Unless you have the title of Prince or Princess, there are few opportunities to explore nature at its finest and experience accommodations, service, and food befitting a royal. e Château du Sureau on the outskirts of Yosemite in Oakhurst, California is one of those treasured few places where mountains and valleys astound and nothing is le to desire, except perhaps a crown and scepter. From the moment you step out of your car, the attentive staff of the Château du Sureau assures your every need will be met. Luggage is gathered directly from your car and delivered to your room while you are given a tour of the property and all the amenities that await you. e structure is truly reminiscent of a fine European castle from a bygone era when Victorian excess, tastefully done, was the desired look for those with social standing. To explore the Château is to experience the days when crasmanship in the form of sturdy sideboards, intricate carving, bold tile, and furniture designed to withstand the test of time, was displayed throughout the best-tailored homes. Tapestries and fine art adorn the walls, sofas you can sink into abound, and every nook has a floral bouquet atop an heirloom table. e common room has a portico surrounded by windows that overlook a grove of stately trees backdropped by mountains. e main feature of the space is a carved wooden grand piano lit by an intricate chandelier. Nearby the fireplace glows, beckoning visitors to sink into the couches and chairs and enjoy a morning coffee or evening glass of wine. A desk equipped with a laptop is tucked into a corner for those who need to check in even while they are a world away. VUE ON | TRAVEL VUENJ.COM 81
