Buenos Aires is oen dubbed the "Paris of Latin America" for its European- inspired architecture, cafes, extensive public transportation system, and wide boulevards. However, the city retains a completely unique and individual identity due to the cultural shi caused by mass European migration between 1897 and 1930. Today, natives of Buenos Aires are a mix of Latin American and European and are called porteños, people of the port. Buenos Aires is also the birthplace of tango, a popular destination for both local and international cuisine (but most famous for its asado), and houses some of the highest- ranked cultural institutions in the world. Sports fans will also enjoy catching a fútbol game as Argentina has once again taken the crown as champion of the world following their recent World Cup win. Whether exploring the sprawling city by foot, riding the train, or caught in riveting conversation with a cabbie, visitors will notice that every neighborhood has its own personality, rich history, and the city marches to the beat of its own drum. e poshest neighborhood in Buenos Aires is Recoleta. Here is where visitors can find Parisian-inspired architecture; Recoleta is the most affluent neighborhood in the city where politicians and the region's wealthiest residents have called home for generations. Located right on Plaza San Martin is the Palacio Paz Boutique Hotel, a concept boutique hotel that boasts expansive views of the plaza from every room and is conveniently located near a number of popular tourist locations. ere are a variety of accommodations such as studios, balcony rooms, executive rooms, and junior suites that are perfect for friends, families, couples, or solo travelers. e junior suite is spacious with windows that provide an abundance of morning sunlight and gorgeous views of the plaza. Windows are soundproof and the bathroom features a rain shower, tub, bidet, and a large, lighted mirror and countertop area. e hotel also recently launched a massage room for guests to enjoy the utmost in relaxation when they return to the hotel to rest aer long days exploring the city. Just south of the hotel, guests can walk to the obelisk and entertainment area (think Times Square for porteños) and even walk over to the Plaza de Mayo, the biggest gathering place in the city for parades, protests, and political rallies. e Plaza de Mayo is surrounded by museums housed in Colonial architecture. Visitors typically make a beeline for the Casa Rosada, the Argentinian presidential building that was originally built as a Customs building because it sits right on the Rio de la Plata near local ports. While these ports have been decommissioned, they were a major point of international importing and exporting since the 1500s. VUE ON | TRAVEL VUENJ.COM 55
