JANE BOOKE M E E T B O H E M I A N L A FA S H I O N B R A N D Designer Jane Booke, a true Angeleno, was raised in Bel-Air in the utmost bohemian fashion. Her mother and father traveled constantly to remote locations, collecting orchids and on digs for Pre- Columbian art. Jane's preference in design varied from that of her parents', which adorned the entirety of her childhood home - in fact, they had one of the largest collections at the time, so she turned to her room for creative sanctuary, painting, sewing and creating all things she found stylistically beautiful. As a teenager, Jane struggled to find clothes that resonated with her personal style in U.S. department stores, so she used her annual summer trips to the South of France to scour vintage stores and find beautiful pieces from the 20s, 30s, and 40s. One year, upon returning home from her travels, she had the idea to breathe new life into these dresses, remaking them with slight silhouette changes and new fabrications of the time, so they could actually be worn. Jane's designs were an instant hit with her high school peers, and her dresses quickly became the must-have for students at the school. However, it wasn't until many years later, as an adult, that Jane actually saw potential to turn her passion for designing dresses into a career. Whilst at a friend's wedding, the owner of Les Habitudes, a high-end Beverly Hills boutique, approached Jane to ask who had made her dress. Of course, the design was one of her own and the boutique owner ordered the design on the spot. In fact, she ended up ordering so many pieces from the collection that Jane was given her own corner at the store. Stylists quickly began pulling her pieces for their celebrity clients and photo shoots, and the rest is histor y. Since then, Jane has designed dresses for a multitude of Hollywood stars, musicians and creatives. Now, nearly three decades later, Jane has created her own world at her home studio in Hancock Park, where she welcomes VIPs and stylists, friends, and customers alike. Jane has never followed trends, but rather designs her clothes to have heart. With references to Camelot and Star Wars in her design aesthetic, Jane wants to empower women to embrace beauty now rather than saving it for later. "I want Jane Booke to bring glamour back, and to see women wearing my clothes everywhere. I want women to be enriched by the lifestyle that glamour can bring. It doesn't have to be difficult. Glamour is power, and it is not hard to achieve.I want more and more women to stop saving beauty for later," said Booke. Jane's bespoke pieces are available on JaneBooke.com, with new arrivals dropping on the site every season. VUE ON | FASHION VUENJ.COM 27
