VUE: How would you describe your artistic style and the
themes or concepts that oen inspire your work?
GRANT: I like to think of my style as a form of "sloppy
portraiture with a powerful twist." My themes and concepts
shi oen, with no particular rhyme or reason. I'm usually
inspired by random images I come across, which can lead
me to paint something entirely different from what I did the
previous month. In the beginning, I'd sometimes go a month
without painting because I couldn't decide on my next "great
piece." I started painting nudes simply because they seemed
like an easy way to create something beautiful. But I realized
I needed to stop overthinking and just start painting—
something, anything. Now, I'm more spontaneous, letting
my inspiration flow from a road trip, an interesting moment
in everyday life, or even just the colors in a random image.
