About the Specialist TOP HERBAL REMEDIES FOR COLD & FLU SEASON Flu season is most common during the fall and winter months making this the perfect time to share my top three herbal remedies to stock up on in preparation for the coming cold and flu season. During cold and flu season, herbal remedies can be used to support your immune system and alleviate any symptoms. Here are my favorite herbal medicines that are tried and true for cold and flu: 1. Echinacea: Echinacea is a renowned herbal remedy known for its immune-boosting properties. Its antiviral and antibacterial properties work synergistically to combat pathogens, while also mitigating the severity and duration of symptoms. Echinacea is available in various forms, including capsules, tinctures, and teas. 2. Elderberry: Elderberry is rich in antioxidants and has antiviral properties. It is often used to relieve symptoms of the flu, such as fever, cough, and congestion while its abundant antioxidant content stimulates the immune system. Elderberry can be consumed as a syrup, capsule, or tea. This herb is especially great for children in its syrup form. Children over 1 year of age may enjoy this with raw honey. 3. Ginger: Ginger, while common, is still very underestimated. Ginger's potent anti- inflammatory and antiviral nature aids in reducing inflammation, promoting healthy respiratory function, and combating viral pathogens. It can help relieve sore throat, reduce congestion, and ease nausea. Ginger can be consumed as a tea, juiced raw, added to soups or dishes, or taken in capsule form. These three herbal remedies can assist you in navigating the cold and flu season with ease. However, while these herbs are common and usually safe for all, always consult with a healthcare professional prior to incorporating herbal remedies into your routine, particularly if you have underlying health conditions or are currently taking medications. Specialists TIP 'Back to School' season usually brews a cold or two so make sure these remedies are readily available in your cabinet. The key to success with any herbal treatment is to begin right away at symptom onset! I hope you all have a wonderful fall season! VUE ON | WELLNESS VUENJ.COM 35
