relying on sweet wines, we concentrate on showcasing our terroir and the unique expression our grapes offer each season, allowing each vintage to find its voice." While other area wineries can lean towards a more formal setting, Working Dog Winery prides themselves on being an accessible destination for families and pet owners alike. "It's a relaxed, welcoming space, and our staff is always happy to help people try something new and explain what they're tasting," Carlee notes. e first vines planted back in 2001 were Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc, and Carlee explains that "we focus on selecting grape varietals that are well suited to this region and thrive in our local climate." Noting that the East Coast is ideal for growing Cabernet Franc and hybrid varieties such as Traminette and Chambourcin, Carlee explains that "vine selection involves a very careful decision- making process, including choosing the right rootstock to match the region's soils and climate." e team's thoughtfulness and hard work is evident when enjoying a pour from one of their award- winning bottles. For spring sipping, Carlee points to the winery's Traminette, a highly aromatic, off-dry white with a delicate hint of sweetness, a style that was entirely new to her before purchasing the winery. For a rosé option, she recommends the Equinox Rosé, a refreshingly dry, fruit-forward wine, with this vintage made from Sangiovese grapes. For those who prefer red wines in warmer weather, Carlee suggests the winery's Chambourcin, a lighter- bodied red that's enjoyable at room temperature and can even be served slightly chilled. With so many delicious offerings from their estate- grown wines, Carlee's biggest suggestion to visitors of Working Dog Winery is to "enjoy an educational tasting and be open to trying new wines suggested by the Tasting Room employees." Whether enjoying a bottle of their white or red, time spent at Working Dog Winery is full of casual relaxation, informative tasting sessions, and an opportunity to reconnect and enjoy time with loved ones on the winery's extensive grounds.
