It has been almost 80 years since Louis Réard unveiled his design for modern women's swimwear on July
5th, 1946. Aptly named after the Pacific site where atomic bombs were tested; the "Bikini" quickly proved
it could make any bombshell nuclear.
To celebrate the 80th birthday of this beloved two-piece swim outfit, VUE has decided to look back at some
timeless and not-so-timeless swimwear through the years. As we took this trip through the history of bathing
suit, we noticed two things have always been consistent through the years; the designs always pushed the
boundaries of societal norms, and the wearer has always just wanted to have fun!
