Right now, Jessica says, "I'm most drawn to bronze, alabaster, and plaster because they each bring a different kind of quiet depth," creating a neutral palette that balances restraint and expression. Noting that a "neutral palette allows the materials and silhouettes to speak more clearly," Jessica focuses on expression through "the mix of pieces, the tension between organic and tailored elements, and the overall atmosphere the room creates." e juxtaposition of materials ("so against hard, bright against muted, polished against raw") delivers a design that feels refined, but never flat, architectural, but never trying too hard. To deliver a space that goes from designed to lived-in, Jessica employs "final emotional details–art that feels personal, objects with history, and materials that bring warmth and depth." Once these components are in place, the space is complete. An exciting feature of Jessica Gersten Design is the offering of the Cavalo lighting collection. These stunning sculptural lighting pieces were born from Jessica's initial collaboration with artist Jason Koharik and their "shared fascination with materiality, crasmanship, fashion, and storytelling." Looking to create lighting "that feels both sculptural and livable," Jessica's background in interiors combined with Jason's sculptural artistry and hands-on approach to create "lighting that carries both soness and strength, inviting a feeling of warmth, curiosity, and subtle drama within a space," states Jessica. ese breathtaking pieces feel at once timeless and unexpected, utilizing antique brass and alabaster with unexpected addition of horsehair. Jessica describes the difference of working in collectible design rather than designing interiors as feeling "more instinctive and sculptural." "With interiors," she says, "I'm thinking about how an entire environment functions and flows, while collectible design allows me to focus more intimately on form and materiality." Whether designing collectible lighting pieces or creating modern, innovative interior design, Jessica Gersten is gied at shaping the atmosphere of a space and curating something that feels deeply intentional, personal, and rare.
