Sammy set out to design the space as "objectively luxurious" with a high standard of hospitality at play, one derived from a life where "I grew up going to great restaurants and hotels, so I was familiar with good food, good service, good hospitality," he shares. Hospitality, for Sammy, is rooted in "going the extra mile" and "paying attention to detail, feeling at home," a sense he would like to imbue to Meadow Lane shoppers. As he puts it, "NYC is so chaotic and fast. I wanted to create a sanctuary where people could feel ease and comfort while doing a seemingly normal activity–shopping for food. I wanted our guests to feel all their senses heightened, like they'd been transported to a place they'd never been." Meadow Lane has been called "the Erewhon of New York City," sharing a similar ethos when it comes to their high-status, upscale offerings. Pointing to the "quality of ingredients" and the recipes made in house, Sammy is aware that Meadow Lane is "not for everyone." Still, he shares, "it was and is important to me to be as fair as fiscally possible to keep the pricing as reasonable to the consumer as we can." With connection front and center as a major driving factor, Sammy notes that "we cater to all sorts of people. Some regulars, some who come once a week or month for a special treat. It's a nice thing to see all the many walks of life that come into the store, from daily regulars to new faces." Whether his customers are coming in for a relaxing stroll, looking for a coffee or lunch, or purchasing their weekly grocery favorites, Sammy's vision for Meadow Lane is exactly the same, regardless of their purchasing power. "I hope all of our customers feel welcome and greatly valued and appreciated," he says. When asked what's next for Meadow Lane, Sammy urges readers to "stay tuned. Expansion is a priority, and there are verticals to expansion that are more unexpected." In the meantime, whether you're searching for a stunning floral arrangement, mouthwatering catering options, or a Zen moment in the midst of NYC, Sammy Nussdorf is happy to welcome you in to Meadow Lane.
