A sculptor before he became a jewelry designer, Charles' education and extensive art background delivers a different approach than other jewelry designers. He says, "sculpture taught me to think in three dimensions. Every piece I design is considered from every angle, not just from the top. I pay close attention to proportion, balance, negative space, and how a piece feels when it's worn." Because of this, there is a sculptural look and feel that is distinctive and a defining aspect of the collections. With more than half of the business dedicated to creating custom designs, a piece of jewelry by Charles Krypell is imbued with much more than fine gold or delicate gemstones. While those visiting the flagship store location can purchase ready-to-wear fine jewelry or service their pre-existing pieces, long-standing clients of Charles Krypell intimately know and understand the dedicated design process behind their most beloved items. Charles leads us through the process, explaining that "every design begins with inspiration, whether it's architecture, sculpture, nature, or an extraordinary gemstone. Just as importantly, it oen begins with listening. We listen intensely to their ideas, preferences, and the story behind the piece they want to create, then transform those ideas into a three-dimensional reality that they can be extraordinarily proud to wear." Charles sketches the concept and works with his team to create highly detailed models that are then cast and assembled by highly skilled artisans who meticulously handcra every item, setting each gemstone by hand. With extensive quality control measures in place, a piece of custom jewelry designed by Charles Krypell offers an incredible value at a price point hard to find anywhere else. "Because we manufacture our own jewelry," he says, "many of our clients are pleasantly surprised by the quality and crasmanship they're able to receive for the price." Whether purchasing an item for one of life's most celebrated moments or acquiring something beautiful on a whim, clients of Charles Krypell Fine Jewelers are receiving "the quality of Fih Avenue, the creativity and customer service of Madison Avenue, and the value of 47th Street," Krypell says with a wink.
