—THE YANKEE LEGEND ON
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS, GIVING BACK
AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE.
BY MICHAEL SCIVOLI
I
t's not every day that you
have the pleasure of sitting
down for a chat with one of
your childhood heroes. For
me, that day came earlier this
year, when I had the honor of
meeting retired Hall of Fame
Yankee, Mariano Rivera.
It was 1 p.m., a warm afternoon
in late May off the docks of Liberty
Landing Marina in Jersey City. The
reflection of the sun on the river
colored the Manhattan backdrop.
Inside Maritime Parc he sat clad in
black, white and blue, number 42.
"The Sandman."
