Recently, I visited Hotel 50 Bowery, a sleek 21-story glass landmark right on the doorstep of the Manhattan Bridge. Whether passing through for business or looking for a laid-back NYC staycation, the 229-room Sino-inspired Chinatown hotel lends itself to any and all possibilities. BY M I C H A E L S C I VO L I H otel 50 Bowery's vibe is one fitting of the location's history: paying homage to Chinatown's cultural antiquity with a permanent gallery installed by the Museum of Chi- nese in America, as well as artifacts from the hotel's construction site which detail its storied past as a tavern, gambling den and theatre. But the hotel is still very much for today's modern thinker. Dim, labyrinthian corridors that proceed its guestrooms incite an instant state of trance with subtle lanterns and vibrant red doors. Inside, well-lit rooms are adorned with abstract artworks, brass fixtures and hand-plastered headboard walls—a perfect refuge for the creative-minded guest. V U E N J . C O M 118 TRAVEL
