he Confidante, which originally opened in the 1940s under a dif- ferent name, was sold to Hyatt in 2016 as part of their Unbound Collection of upscale boutique properties. Formerly known as the e ompson, the hotel underwent an $82 million metamorphosis just a few years ago. Now the hotel's atmosphere puts a colorful spin on Miami Beach's 1950s Golden Era, with 363 rooms and 16 suites which were all—including the rest of the building—cu- rated by renowned British interior designer, Martin Brudnizki (who also decorated Soho Beach House just up the road). Room design highlights include the likes of tropical flower prints and angular credenzas, echoing the mid-century, yet playfully modern sensibil- ity Brudnizki intended. From its Art-Deco style pop art, antique mirrors and a captivat- ing chandelier, e Confidante proves that it's what's on the inside that truly counts. e original renovation process also included a historic single-family home from the 1930s that rather than demolish, the ho- tel took (as in physically picked up) and dropped right into their backyard. e aptly named 1930s House, a freestanding outdoor Spanish bungalow, extends out to the hotel's pool area and boasts some relaxing bohemian-chic vibes. e space is open to guests to reserve for everything from private functions to cocktail receptions. Part of e Confidante's update aer changing hands in 2016 was the completion of a $3.5 million meeting and event space remodel, where the hotel added new tech and design to its 10,000 square feet of indoor multi-purpose spaces. In addition to this, the property updated its 5,000 square feet of outdoor space which still features the original lush grounds designed by revered landscape architect Raymond Jungles. e amenities, however, include two heated swimming pools (one for adults), colorful private bungalows and a full-service beach—which touts whimsical striped turquoise and yellow cabanas. e property also hopes to inspire wellness retreats with spa suites and full-service Warren-Tricomi Studio salon. Lo- cated on the 10th floor, the open-air rooop spa captures the bliss of Miami Beach and is an ideal location for rejuvenat- ing body massages, anti-aging facials and detoxifying body V U E N J .
