Skincare Below the Chin with The Art of Beauty It is common for European women to have treatments of the neck and chest areas as part of their regular skin care regimen. But here in the US, we oftentimes focus too heavily on lifting and firming the facial skin while ignoring the areas below the chin. What makes these areas so unique? For a start, the skin on your neck and décolleté is 0.2mm thinner than facial skin. There are fewer sebaceous glands, collagen fibers and the lipid component is markedly less, therefore making it more sensitive and vulnerable. At this time of year, after months of being covered up and neglected, these delicate areas are frequently exposed to the elements without warning or preparation. So how do we become protectors of our most glorious yet fragile features? There are a few at-home treatments you can incorporate into your everyday routine to help preserve your skin and slow down the effects of aging. Following these simple suggestions will help to give you the most luminous and gorgeous skin above and below the chin. Wake up your skin by finishing with a splash of cold water. Once a week, massage the breast area with Biologique Recherche Cryo-Sticks or small ice packs for several minutes as tolerated. Balance your skin after the shower using a facial toner such as Lotion P50 by Biologique Recherche. Use this on the delicate skin of the neck and chest. Exfoliate the areas gently once or twice weekly using a mild exfoliant such as Face Scrub by Valmont. Products to use include serums, creams and masques which are all external 'water for the skin.' Apply moisturizing products with your hands always moving in upward sweeping motions toward the chin line. Treatments strongly recommended include nourishing and soothing masques applied for 10-15 minutes once a week or more. Masque VIP O2 by Biologique Recherche can be used and later removed with cold water to further boost circulation. Serums and creams should be light in texture, nourishing and made with good quality ingredients such as vitamin C, AHA, algae, hyaluronic acid, peptides, amino acids, keratin, glycerin and essential fatty acids. Biologique Recherche offers Sérum Matriciel and Crème Réparatrice. Always apply a product with SPF and/or UVA and B filter protection. Increase your water intake to hydrate your skin from the inside. All products mentioned are available for purchase through The Art of Beauty website. 1. 7. 8. 9. 10. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.
