The Right Time for "Face-Time" In our mid-twenties the body's production of collagen—a protein found in the skin that provides firmness and elasticity—starts to diminish, and even more so in our thirties. When the skin is exposed to harsh elements, such as UV rays and environmental pollutants, the production of collagen is even further decreased. So, when is the best time to seek advice and treatments relating to the skin? According to licensed esthetician, Mandy Slusarczyk, founder and owner of The Art of Beauty, there really is no age limit as to when professional skincare ought to start. However, she advises the early twenties as an optimal time to seek treatments by an esthetician, with treatments generally at the absolute minimum, every season. "The skin changes every season, and sometimes even more, depending on what it has been exposed to," Mandy says referencing as an example, the damage caused by the sun and even air conditioning in the summertime. Although a seasonal facial treatment is recommended, Mandy states quite simply that a monthly treatment is her standard minimum recommendation and sometimes even more frequently, depending on the type of treatment involved; a regimen of micro-current muscle- toning treatments entail a weekly treatment for six to 10 weeks to procure the best results. "Skincare is a commitment that requires time and effort. Think of the esthetician as a personal trainer for your skin who provides the appropriate treatments to target particular or general concerns." Mandy believes that consistency is the key to beautiful skin. Caring for the skin must become part of your daily routine and may be customized to suit the individual's time and financial considerations. With society's seemingly tireless quest for perfection everywhere we turn, whether on social media, magazines or television, it is possible to get your most perfect skin but it requires the willingness to afford the skin the necessary "face-time."
