From cascading waterfalls to prehistoric flora,
nearly 1/9 of Grenada (and its smaller, surround-
ing islands) is dedicated to wildlife and nature
preservations. The country's lush valleys are
carved out by the island's volcanic origin, mak-
ing its mountainous interior particularly ideal for
hikes—which vary in difficulty (the highest peak
is 2,760 feet). Grenada's trails will bring you into
the heart of its scenic beauty, including places like
the Seven Sisters Falls, Mt. Qua Qua, and Concord
Falls. My tour navigator, Mandoo Seales, operator
of Mandoo Tours, is perhaps the best guide on the
island. He is a former British Merchant Naval sail-
or, a walking encyclopedia on Grenadian history
and he also saved the life of an injured dog during
our trek outside Grand Etang National Park.
e island of Grenada is one of the
best-kept secrets in the Caribbean, with
some of the most cordial people you'll
ever meet. During my time at Spice
Island Beach Resort, I discovered that
the 135-square-mile country had much
more to offer potential travelers than
its white sand beaches. Here are a few
reasons to visit e Spice Isle.
