Though the island's natural beauty is sure to mes- merize, Grenada's unspoiled charm shines bright- est in the people who preserve it. St. George's, the island's capital, is abound with colorful pastel buildings that encircle a breathtaking bay filled with jovial smiles and fishermen hauling in their daily catch. And everywhere, the nation's pride- ful people are eager to show you their country. Despite climbing unemployment rates, there is a strong sense of community in Grenada, one you instantly feel a part of (adopting a refreshing slow-paced lifestyle of your own). To quote a na- tive Grenadian, "Don't stand in one place for too long, you may start growing." The best souvenir you can bring back from Grena- da isn't some hand-carved trinket, it's a basket of spices. Though, Grenada isn't thriving with grass- lands, its soil is extremely rich. And a huge part of Grenada's pride comes from their exceptional ag- riculture and high-quality exports including nut- meg, mace and cocoa, which have all played a role in Grenada's history. Whether you fancy a cup of soursop tea on the beach, a visit to a nearby plan- tation or simply smelling a cinnamon tree growing on the side of the road, you'll quickly realize why their exports are sought-after worldwide. The Caribbean's beauty is known by even the greenest travelers, and Grenada is no exception. From the pristine 2-mile-long Grand Anse Beach to off-the-radar experienc- es in Carriacou and Petite Martinique, there's no shortage of water excursions to seek out. In addition to great cor- al reefs at Grand Mal Bay and Flamingo Bay, there's also a gallery of underwater sculptures within the Molinere Beauséjour Marine Protected Area—some of the first by re- nowned British sculptor, Jason deCaires Taylor.
