is trend is causing meltdowns in salons across the country, in the best way possible. Not far off from how it sounds, color melting is an application where the base color appears to "melt" into the rest of the hair. e reason it's so beloved is because it lends itself to almost everyone, from those who want playful strands or as an alternative for people whose life (or job) doesn't allow for bold hair changes. e result is oentimes a soer and more fluid blend of colors that appears faded, but is still vibrant overall. While it looks stunning on conventional blondes, brunettes and redheads, Cortez believes it's equally as amazing in creating bright, colorful looks. at being said, the intensity of the color melt will ultimately be determined according to who this type of look is being executed on. Depending on your lifestyle, a more pastel color palette might suit you better—shades of blush, rose gold, powdery blues or smokey lilac make great options. Terms like balayage and ombré have remained popular since the 2000s, but color morphing, on the other hand, is a movement that needs some introduction. While sharing similarities to ombré, where the hair color gradually moves from dark to light, color morphing is a technique that allows one's hair color to move with the light as it changes. It oen starts the same with a deep root, transitioning to a medium color mid-sha before finishing lighter on the ends, but includes a wider range of colors and possibilities beyond blonde and brown. ink coppers, reds or even yellow. "Having multiple dimensions in the hair is crucial for depth, shine and movement," Cortez said. "I call one of my techniques for wavy, curly hair 'color carved curls.' e color placement can highlight or retract light (creating depth) and 'wake up' the locks, refreshing the look. It's a great alternative when in between cuts." Color Melting Color Morphing V U E N J . C O M 63
