S tanCraft was founded in 1933 by father and son, W.H. "Billy" Young and Stanley C. Young in Lakeside, Montana. Built with the purpose of enjoying the outdoors, the first generation of models was comprised of smaller rowboats and sailboats that would accommodate less than eight people. As the company grew, so did the size of their vessels. By the second generation, StanCraft's designs modernized and the company built wooden motorboats meant for entertaining and leisure. Today, the boats have fully evolved into a luxury- powerboat meant for cruising, comfort, and entertaining big groups. Details like chrome finishes, bold interior upholstery, along with sleek lines and shapes, and classic wooden varnishes that complement the exterior mahogany's natural grain, collectively create StanCraft's distinctive look. The process that goes into building a custom handmade boat is lengthy and detailed. The client is involved throughout the entire process from step one to the final product. Building a custom StanCraft begins in the design stage, where the design team and the client will create the initial drawing of the boat both on paper and using virtual specs. Here they will insert custom details such as special engraving, upholstery, custom colors, layout, hardtop design, helm design, cuddy, or bowrider, the options are endless. Once the drawing and mock-ups are finalized the boats move into the building stage where they are moved to the framing department. Here, they are placed upside down on A-frame jigs, and the framing, chines, battens, keel, and keelson all come together to form the skeletal body of the boat. The frame of each boat is built with oak while the exteriors are finished with mahogany. After the frame is built, boats are double planked and ready to move into the whale stage.
