e true test of a fine home away from home is the guest room, and here is where the Château du Sureau, which is a member of Relais & Châteaux and a AAA Five Diamond hotel, displays its knowledge of what makes for a memorable stay. ere are just ten guest suites, each of which uses an old-fashioned key to unlock a sturdy wooden door that opens into a room that exudes comfort, coziness, and class. e king-sized bed, with an abundance of fluffy pillows and white linens, stands ready to pull you in. e seating area next to a fireplace set with logs and a table filled with snacks and wine for the travel weary reminds guests that here, their needs come first. Go a bit further and find a tiled bath area complete with a soaking tub, adjacent shower, well-apportioned vanity, and toiletries by Molton Brown. Nightly turndown service brings fine chocolate as well as cozy slippers le next to the bed ready for your use. Aer a night spent nestled into the soest sheets and coziest comforter, awaken to sun shining through the windows and a day that beckons you to go out and explore. Have morning coffee brought to your room to enjoy on your terrace, then wander down to the breakfast room. e bounty that awaits guests in the breakfast room can turn anyone into a morning person. Under the expert skills of newly hired culinary director Chris Flint, who spent the previous ten years with globally acclaimed fine dining group Make It Nice Hospitality, any meal at the Château and on- site restaurant the Elderberry House will be memorable. Beginning with the first meal of the day, the table is set with croissants and jams, and the wait staff swily arrives to warmly greet you by name and offer a beverage of choice. Starters of fresh fruit, yogurt parfaits, or tarts are followed by main presentations of eggs benedict, omelets, or Belgian waffles, each featuring the freshest fruits and vegetables. So music plays in the background as you sit at a small table set with fine china, reminiscent of what your family brought out for special occasions because each day at the Château is a special day. A stay in a guest room is nothing short of perfection, but for those visiting with more than two guests or who are looking for a more intimate experience, the Château is also home to the 2,000 square foot Villa du Sureau, which houses two king-sized bedrooms, an expansive office, dining terrace, wet bar, grand salon with a baby grand Steinway piano, and a private Roman spa. Breakfast is served daily on the terrace or in the manor and a butler is available for the duration of your visit. VUE ON | TRAVEL 82 VUENJ.COM
