With twenty-two locations spanning New Jersey and New York, General Plumbing Supply looks vastly different from the hardware store that opened in Bayonne, New Jersey over one hundred years ago. Originally named Goldberg Plumbing Supply in 1910 by Charles Goldberg, the then-27-year-old Goldberg might never have envisioned the booming success that his small storefront would see. But then again, perhaps he did. ere are currently four generations of Goldberg's ancestors hard at work at GPS, taking the dream of a young Russian boy who immigrated to the United States at the age of seven and creating a company that now employs over 450 individuals. Justin Freedman, President of GPS and great- grandson of Charles Goldberg, details that going into the family business was "not necessarily in my sights, but (the business) had grown to a scale where my experience would be useful and I could impact a large number of employees and customers." A graduate of Yale School of Management, Freedman's knowledge and experience are evident in General Plumbing Supply's skyrocketing growth and solid partnerships with brands such as Kohler. But it is the true family dynamic which glues this expanding company together, as GPS is led by four individuals who are "personally and emotionally invested in the business–our Uncle Bruce Tucker is our CEO, my cousin Ian Ebner is our Vice President of Sales, and my brother Matt Freedman is our Director of Finance." is familial care extends not only to General Plumbing Supply's employees, but to every soon- to-be loyal customer who walks through their doors. GPS prides itself on being "detail and customer-oriented," remaining "involved and hands-on throughout the entire process right through delivery." VUENJ.COM 57
