the door becomes solid when the switch is turned on and
when someone exits, it turns translucent and ambient
lighting is turned on. By the homeowners request and
drawn from their love for geodes, a custom-made geode
art panel is found in this basement, handmade in Italy
and specially craed to withstand high humidity
environments.
While creating a space as beautiful and different as this
home spa, functionality and logistics played a huge role in
the construction and design process. A dehumidification
system is built into the ceiling and with walls are made
from tadelakt, a waterproof plaster finish similar to
Venetian plaster, which absorbs moisture and dehumidifies
the area. Having a group of professionals that understood
the complexity and engineering of a dehumidification
system like this, while still having it blend into the space,
was incredibly important for this project. Contractor
David Glover of Boxtree Homes and his team flawlessly
executed their calculations to create a balanced, beautiful,
and functional at-home spa.
Not being afraid to take on challenges is one of Marissa
Sauer's greatest strengths and the reason this spa was
created so beautifully and seamlessly. To get inspired by
