the door becomes solid when the switch is turned on and when someone exits, it turns translucent and ambient lighting is turned on. By the homeowners request and drawn from their love for geodes, a custom-made geode art panel is found in this basement, handmade in Italy and specially craed to withstand high humidity environments. While creating a space as beautiful and different as this home spa, functionality and logistics played a huge role in the construction and design process. A dehumidification system is built into the ceiling and with walls are made from tadelakt, a waterproof plaster finish similar to Venetian plaster, which absorbs moisture and dehumidifies the area. Having a group of professionals that understood the complexity and engineering of a dehumidification system like this, while still having it blend into the space, was incredibly important for this project. Contractor David Glover of Boxtree Homes and his team flawlessly executed their calculations to create a balanced, beautiful, and functional at-home spa.
