VUE: What is something you enjoy in life that would surprise most people? Terry: I really love being out in nature. No emails, no phone, no television, just me in a forest, park, beach or lakefront. In college, there was a secluded path from the dorms to the administrative buildings and there was one particular spot on a hill I would go to alone, time aer time to just stand there, looking at the clouds and visualizing my goals and dreams. My imagination becomes clear and vibrant in the quiet stillness. Now, I just go in my backyard and do the same thing. VUE: Did/do you have any superstitions as a football player or as an actor? Terry: None whatsoever. I believe that what you seek is seeking you. My key is to always keep what I want in sharp focus, and what I don't want far from my thoughts. en if I want success, it's up to me to do everything I'm supposed to do for that success to materialize. I feel being superstitious would take me off what I should be focusing on. VUE: Is there a role you passed on that you wish you hadn't? Terry: No! But there are roles I took that I should have passed on—but even then, I learned to make better choices in the future so it ends up working out for my benefit. VUE: Who would you choose to play you in a movie about your life? Terry: I can see someone like Caleb McLaughlin playing a younger version of me, followed by Mike Colter as the adult version. Both are tremendous actors whom I feel could portray both the fun and dark sides of all my experiences. VUE: Looking ahead, what are some dream roles or projects you haven't yet tackled but would love to explore in the future? And on a lighter note, if you could choose any historical figure to portray, who would it be and why? Terry: I can answer that with one name: heavyweight boxing champion Jack Johnson (1908-1915). He was a Black man who became one of the world's most famous people, at the height of the Jim Crow era. He had unapologetic confidence in himself and truly did what many would consider both impossible and unthinkable. A true pioneer. VUE ON | TERRY CREWS 60 VUENJ.COM
