VUE: How did you blend classic foundations with a modern attitude in your designs? GHINZELLI: I started making hats because I trained in millinery, which truly gave me an appreciation for the basics of construction rooted in centuries of tradition. Whether it's garments or accessories, there are fundamentals that dictate how you can make a piece that will look pleasing to the eye, something that will last, and will fit properly. But then I will add touches of the unexpected in the details, something that gives them a modern sensibility, making them relevant to how women conduct their lives today. VUE: Princess Diana, Grace Kelly, and contemporary royals like Kate and Letizia are key inspirations for you. How did their style influence your collection? GHINZELLI: The late princesses Diana and Grace – each in their own ways – defied the conventions of their times. Yes, they performed their duties for the greater good with exceptional dignity but they were also bold, contemporary women. Today's royals have taken a page from them and women like Kate and Letizia are serving as role models to young women in embracing responsibility with style and poise. It's that balance of elegance and strength that I seek to embody in anything I create. VUE: You focus on using cruelty-free, high- quality materials. Can you share the selection process for your fabrics and materials? GHINZELLI: Social responsibility has truly become an important part of how we choose to shop these days. We want to make sure we support brands that align with our own convictions. I'm a huge animal lover and believe in humane labor so I really do my best to use materials from cruelty free and fair trade sources. And it's not as easy as you think. ere are so many companies that advertise that they are but sometimes if they are located in some distant part of the world it can be a challenge to really confirm that. I always do my homework in checking fabric sources if they have the necessary certifications and what other brands that source from them. ose can be good indications if you are dealing with a reliable company.
