LA PAZ

M
exico has always experienced a sort of identity crisis. From party-centric cities like
Cancun and Cabo San Lucas to densely populated resort destinations such as Riviera
Maya, it can be hard to familiarize oneself with the calming, coastal shores of the Baja
Peninsula. La Paz, the capital city of Baja California Sur, is beyond any version of Mexico one
could imagine and translates rightfully so to mean "the peace." Surrounded by both the Pacific
Ocean and Sea of Cortez, turquoise waters and secluded white sand beaches are rivaled by
rolling, cactus-filled hills, desert-like terrain and a vibrant marine life deemed by Jacques
Cousteau as "the aquarium of the world." While to me it felt as if I had landed on another
planet, rest assured that this is the best of what our Earth has to offer. La Paz's ability to retain
such an unspoiled landscape is just one of the reasons entrepreneur and businessman Jeffrey
Curtiss came to visit 11 years ago and with that, decided to purchase a beach and build a
property that would capture the magic and natural beauty of the region—a place known as
Playa de La Paz.
