MATT BOMER for Todd Snyder Fall 2017 Collection y father said if you want to be the best, you must work for the best, and that's what I did. I knew hard work and persistence would get me far. Ralph Lauren is the best in the industry, and I had to work for him after reading his book in the '80s. I must have called Ralph's offices a hundred times until reaching the right person that I ultimately worked for." Snyder remained on the Polo Ralph Lauren team designing outerwear and moved on to later become the Director of Menswear for Gap and Senior Vice President of Menswear for J.Crew. His Americana style—which could be attributed to his Midwestern roots—has granted him a three-time nomination for the CFDA Swarovski Menswear Award and a two-time nomination for the CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year Award since his company's inception. Aimed at the modern, Manhattan man, the Todd Snyder brand has made its success making garments looking elevated and effortless. Classic, go-to items get an updated look of luxury by ensuring a good fit and using quality materials— two fundamentals that Snyder believes are utilized moreso outside of the U.S. A European sensibility is part of what inspires Snyder's designs and influences his own personal Savile Row style. "I love to travel. It helps my creativity, and it gets me out of my comfort zone. I like to reimagine what it would be like to live in amazing places like Provence, Capri, and Tokyo. I like to sketch and take notes of the people I see there." Well-tailored jackets, flattering trousers, cozy knits and relaxed tees are just a part of Snyder's wearable aesthetic, along with his unique ability to see the promise in unlikely pairings like a fitted blazer with a pair of sweats. For his most recent fall 2017 collection titled 'Urban Expedition,' Snyder incorporated unexpected elements that complimented his traditional menswear looks but with an outdoorsman twist. "[The collection] is a lot of plush and texture for fall — cashmere mixed with corduroy, velvet, and chunky sweaters." Standout favorites were monochromatic velvet tracksuits, elongated overcoats and combat-style pants adorned with oversized panels and pockets. Overall, the collection highlighted the ease and versatility behind Snyder's sought-after designs. VUE ON FASHION V U E N J . C O M 22
