something of an aesthetic prologue to the rest of the house. Though the Stone Palace was built in the 1990s, its overall aesthetic harkens back to a different time and a different place: specifically, to 18th/19th century Russia. This, like everything else in this property, is by design: the owner, having grown up in Russia, was deeply inspired by the architectural traditions found in St.Peterburg, and endeavored to imbue his home with stylistic elements reminiscent of old Russian palaces. He succeeded: those stylistic influences are not just visible throughout the property - they are baked into its very fabric. They're there in the handmade custom decorative plaster moldings which were hand crafted to fit the exact part of each wall they find themselves on; they're there in the dome ceiling above the breakfast room, and in the custom hand-made porcelain chandelier which lights it; they're there in all the imported marble, the various mantels, in the decorated ceilings and gold-plated details, and the Louis XIV-inspired furniture. As a result, the Stone Palace is not just aesthetically pleasing to the eye - it is positively regal in its atmosphere. V U E N J .C O M 74
